Artist: Kirk Starkey
Location: Convocation Hall, McMaster University
Images flash everywhere; we're all deficient in attention and we quickly scan for what catches our eyes. What a painter puts hours of work into might just be a 0.5 second glance from their audience.
Sound is different. The rate of listening to a song will always be consistent (unless sped up… but never do that), and what the artist lays out on a musical timeline will play to your ears at the exact pace intended.
To me, good cinematography helps keep the audience's eyes where needed, but good sound will equalize their attention and emotion.
