In the midst of a global pandemic, being able to relive a tropical paradise may seem out of reach– but with these two and their wonderful wedding party, the white sand and warm water aren't hard to remember at all. As I finally get around to posting this imagery, it brings back the feelings of relaxation and warmth.
This was the first time shooting in the Cancun, Mexico area. Although I've visited the country a few times before, this was my first professional work trip. Flying into the Cancun airport and driving down to the Playa Del Carmen area was as smooth as it could have been – I do admit that the drastic change from autumn Canadian weather to a tropical summer was a nice challenge to get used to 😅
If you're new to my website, you'll come to know that the bulk of my work relies heavily on knowing the ins and outs of the celebrating couple. I remember reading their first inquiry email, the words 'destination wedding in mexico' catching my eye and quickly replying with a "Yes please!! I am so available to travel to a 5-star resort 😍". Within a few months, we finalized everything and met up in Ottawa's very own Figaro coffeeshop.
It didn't take long to really interview the lucky couple. We went through the logistics of getting myself and my team out to Cancun – flying out from Toronto Pearson International Airport– and meeting up with them in the resort just 2 days before their wedding date.
Talking to them was like talking to old friends, we're the same age and could honestly bond over the quirks of our demographic. I remember really identifying with the best man speech and Kurtis' kinship to the GTL lifestyle haha, or Valerie's modern aesthetic in imagery and design.
